LETTER TO AN ATHEIST
July 15, 2008
On my birthday, as a gift to you, I started writing this letter in regards to our recent phone conversation about religion. I am writing quite a few pages because I may never get another chance to because of your age. At age 85, you have little time left to understand, nor do you want to, but you should need to know these things just the same. I hope you'll read all of this before you go to meet your Maker, and I hope you'll let Jimmy read it too. It probably makes you curious and angry sometimes, as well, that I have chosen to believe in God. This letter should explain why I do. Jeffrey thinks that you should read it twice. I believe he's right.
I can tell you that I don't believe in God because I like to believe in fairytales. I believe because I have seen ample enough proof that God does exist. With all of the evil in this world, I could have chosen not to believe in Him, but my not believing in Him is not going to make Him go away. A person who decides to believe there is no cancer in their own body, doesn't make it go away by their own disbelief. You not believing in God is not going to make Him go away either. So, don't be mad, but be glad that you still have a little time left to find out if He really exists and what He wants from you. You were always so angry that nobody could talk to you about this. But why would anyone get angry over something they claim does not exist? That is illogical. I can't help it if you decide to get mad. That is not my problem. I will be held accountable by God, if I don't tell my own aging mother about this, and I'm more afraid of Him than I am of you. So, just remember that you brought up the subject of religion, not me. I am only using that opening as an opportunity to say more about Him as God would have me to do.
And while we're on that subject, I should tell you that there is a great difference between "religion" and what the Bible teaches. Millions of people think they are one and the same. True Christians know better. "Religion" as you call it, is man's self-righteous efforts to reach up to God to get into heaven. Any real Christian knows that they can't get into heaven by practicing "religion". Your cousin, Arlene, practiced "religion" all of her life until she died. She knows, now, that she did the wrong thing. She was a moral person, but she was still wrong.
Some "religions" use the Bible and some don't. Those that do use it, misuse it. True Christianity is not a religion, but a personal relationship with God. Everything that I tell you should be new to you because I am using facts right out of the Bible instead of what religions tell you. (Just like that question you asked me about who the Muslims are?) Although Islam is a just another "religion", the Bible tells us why that religion originated. Muslims agree that their original roots came through Abraham and his wife's Egyptian handmaiden, Hagar, who bore a son for him. God named that son, Ishmaelite, and predicted that a vast nation of people would come from him. Because that son was illegitimate, (or not meant to be), that son and the nation that came from him, became a continual problem to Abraham's legitimate offspring.
Abraham, had another son with his wife, Sarah, and named him Isaac. This was the legitimate son that God wanted Abraham to have. All the Jews came through Isaac. To this day, the big war between Jews and Muslims is all about which son inherited the right to the land of Jerusalem from their common father, Abraham. That's why it is always called a "religious" or a "Holy War". The Bible says that only Isaac and his descendants have any right to that land. In an effort to discount the Bible's claim, a man name Muhammad (570-622 AD) wrote another book called, "the Koran", so that Ishmael's descendants could use it to try to claim the land away from Isaac's descendants. Today, as Muslims, they are still jealous of the birthrights and favor with God that Israel enjoyed back then. The war between them goes on to this day. Muslims are angry with America for sticking their nose in and siding with the Jews. The Koran calls anyone who is not on the side of Islam, "infidels". It says that, "infidels must die". Some Muslims have taken this to heart to the point of becoming terrorists.
So, isn't it remarkable that the Bible can give you an explanation for who they are? The Bible explains who God is too. He is an invisible Spirit, a force, if you will. I know that you've heard this before, and it's hard to believe because you can't see Him, but the absence of seeing a physical body today does not mean that he doesn't exist. He appeared to early man in several forms, but later, He came to them in the form of a man called, Jesus. Without our bodies, the spirits that live inside our bodies are invisible too. The wind is invisible, many gases are invisible, and several other things are not visible to the naked eye. If a blind man doesn't believe in rainbows, do rainbows not exist? His belief has no bearing, whatsoever, on its reality. It exists whether he believes in it or not. On the other hand, there is plenty of seeable evidence to indicate the existence of a real God. Enough to make me believe in Him, and I can talk about that evidence, but first, this should give you an important insight:
While it is true that you can't see God, you can find proof (if you really want to) of his existence everywhere. God says that He has shown Himself in many ways and continues to show more of Himself to those who believe in Him. That may sound like a fairytale promise to you, but the Bible says that He withdraws Himself from people who don't believe and shows Himself to people who do believe. Why would He do that? Because he is insulted by your unbelief. Unbelief does not please God, but belief in Him does. He rewards those who seek to find Him and to know Him more:
Hebrews 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
The Bible says that this is the correct attitude to have when seeking and approaching the God of the Universe. In effect, He is saying, "Believe in me and then come and find me and you will".
Is it wrong, then, to question the existence of God or the authenticity of the Bible? No, but you, at least have to hold an open mind towards His existence. To declare, absolutely, that there is no God is to make oneself be God, as if you knew everything. Where is your proof that there is no God? It is a proud and rude attitude towards God and He doesn't like it. He is offering you good things, and He doesn't want to give them to someone with an arrogant attitude towards Him. This is one reason that unbelievers don't see Him. It is not God's fault that they don't see him, but their own.
So, has he shown me more of Himself? I would have to say that He has. Beyond that intriguing thought, what solid proof do I have to offer to you of the existence of God? Lots of proof, but I'll start with this: The Bible, itself, tells us that we only have to look around to know of His existence by what we can see with our very own eyesin all that He has created. This is how you first begin to see some evidence of Him. After you start believing, you can see more:
I started by taking a good look at everything for myself. It was not haphazard, and I could tell that someone designed it. Everything that exists has an intelligent design. Could it have formed out of the slime? Hardly. It is too artistic to come from slime. Evolutionists have to make the earth to be billions of years old for that even to be a possibility. They hate to admit it, but carbon dating has been shown to be faulty too. They carbon dated the Grand Canyon to be billions of years old, but when Mount St. Helen's volcano erupted, it made the same exact effect in only 4 hours flat! (So much for the accuracy of carbon dating). The Bible shows us that the earth is really only about 6,000 years old if you count back to the beginning of the book of Genesis. God says that He is the Creator of it, and that we can see His handiwork in everything that is here. He says that we are, therefore, without excuse (meaning that all of us can see these things and know that He does exist) He says it here in Romans, chapter 1:
Romans 1:19,20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath sh owed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
So, what did your father tell you about God? He said, "Look up in the sky and tell me what do you see? Do you see any God up there gopping down"? Well, you could say that you saw the sun and beautiful blue sky and the fluffy white clouds that I noticed too, as a child, without anyone pointing it out to me. Ironically, those were the first things that I saw, early one Sunday morning, that made me believe there truly must be a God up there. That's when I started going to church while you were all still in bed. I kept going until you put an end to it.
Maybe you and your father didn't notice the stars and the moon either, but let's not stop there. How about the millions of intricately designed flowers and trees with leafs and fruit all bearing their own self producing seeds, (those same items that God claimed He created and put seeds in them to multiply)? As a person with an eye for artistry, I couldn't help but examine them with wonder and awe, at just how fabulously artistic they really are. When you look at a painting, do you tell yourself there was no painter? Did the painting form by itself?
What about all of the carefully designed birds, fish, and mammals? How about the eco system? Yes, how about it, indeed! How about the very special instincts that animals have? How do the birds instinctively know when and where to migrate? How do animals know how to take care of their young? What to eat and what not to eat? Evolution doesn't answer these questions, but God does. He put these things here and made them work.
And the human conscience? If we evolved slowly out of the slime into apes, and then into humans, we would have no conscience. How could we come from something without any conscience? God says that he made us in His likeness and image, not out of the conscienceless animals that He created. Animals were created for us. Humans were created as special beings for Him and given a conscience so that we could make choices and know right from wrong.
How about the eye? Even Charles Darwin admitted, "To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree". Grant R. Jeffery said, " Darwin admitted that millions of 'missing links', transitional life forms, would have to be discovered in the fossil record to prove the accuracy of his theory that all species had gradually evolved by chance mutation into new species. Unfortunately for his theory, despite hundreds of millions spent on searching for fossils worldwide for more than a century, the scientists have failed to locate a single missing link out of the millions that must exist if their theory of evolution is to be vindicated".
Dr. T.N. Tahmisian of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission said, "Scientists who go about teaching that evolution is a fact of life are great con-men, and the story they are telling may be the greatest hoax ever. In explaining evolution, we do not have one iota of fact".
Author, Ray Comfort, has noted, "Darwin, himself, whose theory of evolution has evolved into something he never said, could hardly believe how the world latched on to his speculation". Darwin wrote, "I was a young man with unformed ideas. I threw out queries, suggestions, wondering all the time over everything; and to my astonishment, the ideas took like wildfire. People made a religion out of them"! A new religion is what it has turned in to.
These famous men claim that evolution is nothing more than scientific folly:
H.S. Lipson, Professor of Physics, University of Manchester, UK said, "In fact, evolution became in a sense a scientific religion; almost all scientists have accepted it and many are prepared to 'bend' their observations to fit in with it".
Malcolm Muggeridge, famous British journalist and philosopher, said, "I myself am convinced that the theory of evolution, especially the extent to which it's been applied, will be one of the great jokes in the history books of the future".
Professor Louis Bounoure, Director of Research, National Center of Scientific Research, said, "Evolution is a fairy tale for grown-ups. This theory has helped nothing in the progress of science. It is useless".
Rich and I heard something rather amusing the other night on PBS (your channel 24) TV. They were talking about evolution, and remarked that they don't really know exactly how or if man had evolved from the apes for sure. Rich and I mused, "Really? We thought they had all the answers". It was the first time that we ever heard any evolutionists admit that evolution was still only a theory and not a solid fact. From what we've seen, we believe atheists actually have to believe more nonsense to believe in evolution than they think we do to believe in God!
Sir Arthur Keith (who wrote the foreword to Darwin's Origin of the Species, 100th edition) admitted, "Evolution is unproved and unprovable. We believe it only because the only alternative is special creation, and that is unthinkable". (I just read this today). Finally!- They admit that evolution is not a fact. They believe it only because they don't want to believe in God, and they have no other choice to turn to as an explanation for how things came about. Darwin knew it too, but he just didn't want to believe in God. Isn't that what you're doing too? What a waste of time and money they've spent on this farce, passing it off as truth. Now that I feel I have done an ample job of destroying the illusion of evolution for you, I will continue to attempt to prove to you that God does exist.
You seem to wonder why your own daughter would become a Christian or believe in such nonsense as there being a God out there somewhere. Well, there are many people out there, far more intelligent than you and I, who believe it. That's another reason why I believe it. I've read about many of them. For a start, I will quote the famous statistician, George Gallup who said: "I could prove God statistically. Take the human body alone: the chance that all the functions of the individual would just happen is a statistical monstrosity".
Maybe some of these men will sound a bit more familiar to you. Rich and I watched another PBS TV program about THE world's most famous scientist and THE most intelligent genius of all time, Sir Isaac Newton, who discovered gravity and invented calculus. They claimed that another person with the brain genius of Newton could not be born again for at least another 500 years or more. They said that Newton was, by far, the most intelligent genius that ever lived. It was noted that other geniuses, those of his day, and also those geniuses who came after him (including Einstein) looked up to him in admiration. It was noted that he was an avid Bible reader who firmly believed in God, as a superior being of a vast intelligence. Another author quotes Newton here, "This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being". Newton also noticed other things, like how human hands were designed perfectly for the purpose of holding things. Newton said, "In absence of any other proof, the thumb alone would convince me of God's existence".
If the testimony of the most intelligent genius and scientist on the planet who ever lived is not enough for you, I can give you the testimony of what seems to me like a myriad of others. I would have to watch that show again and reread the quotes from some books to list them all. Here are some from author, Ray Comfort's book, "God Doesn't Believe in Atheists". Ray writes that having one of the greatest minds that ever lived, that so-called atheist, Albert Einstein said, "Everyone who is seriously interested in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe-- a spirit vastly superior to man, and one in the face of which our modest powers must feel humble". (Mom, somehow, that doesn't sound very much like an atheist to me). Listen to what else he said, "All our knowledge is but the knowledge of schoolchildren". "In view of such harmony in the cosmos which I, with my limited human mind, am able to recognize, there are yet people who say there is no God. But what makes me really angry is that they quote me for support of such views". "I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts. The rest are details". (So much for Einstein being an atheist, I guess)
Here is what Sir Fred Hoyle, professor of astronomy at Cambridge University said about evolution: "The chance that higher life forms might have emerged in this way is comparable to the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junk yard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein". He concluded, "The likelihood of the formation of life from inanimate matter is one out of 1040,000…It is big enough to bury Darwin and the whole theory of evolution. There was no primeval soup, neither on this planet nor on any other, and if the beginnings of life were not random, they must, therefore, have been the product of purposeful intelligence". (Yes, the purposeful intelligence of a Designer and Creator).
The founding fathers of our own country, prominent, intelligent men, lawyers, statesmen and politicians, just about all of them believed in God. Noah Webster, author of the 1828 dictionary, considered "education useless without the Bible". It should be obvious to anyone that most of our very own presidents believed in God, back then and today. A President of the United States from our day, Dwight Eisenhower, said this:
"It takes no brains to be an atheist. Any stupid person can deny the existence of a supernatural power because man's physical senses cannot detect it. But there cannot be ignored the influence of conscience, the respect we feel for the Moral Law, the mystery of first life…or the marvelous order in which the universe moves about us on this earth. All these evidence the handiwork of the beneficent Deity…That Deity is the God of the Bible and of Jesus Christ, His Son".
I have quoted quite a few smart men who believed, but by far, the most important piece of proof for the existence of God is His written word, the Holy Bible. Although, He wrote it using the hands of men, every word was dictated to them through the inspiration of God. The existence of a book, such as this, is witness, alone, for God. The Bible was always considered to be a very profound book, compared to, but surpassing even the writings of Shakespeare, a literary genius. Remarkably, The King James Bible is the only Bible or book in the world that can interpret itself. If you look up how many times a word or phrase appears in any verses in that particular Bible, (not some corrupted Bible version like the NIV that men have messed with), by comparing those verses you can see exactly what the word or phrase actually means by how it is used. It is God's very own record of the creation of this universe and all of the life in it. It includes God's dealings with early man from the beginning up to today, and even on into the future. At first glance, the Bible may appear to be just a book of fables, but the Bible gives us a very accurate account of historical information that matches up perfectly with the history books of our day. In fact, the history books actually support the credibility of the Bible.
Many of the predictions of the Bible have happened and are, now, part of written history. For example, it gave us the prophesy about Alexander the Great. History has stated that, during one of his sieges, Alexander was shown that part of the Bible written within the book of Daniel (centuries before Alexander's time) that included the prediction of his rise to power. It is said that Alexander was so impressed with what those Israelites showed him in the Bible about himself and his empire, that he allowed them to go free and to live unharmed, unlike the other peoples that he had so ruthlessly conquered.
The Pharos of Egypt, the rulers of Rome, and other historical figures were also recorded in the Bible accurately in the right time periods and places. The customs and laws of those days all match accurately. I read somewhere, "The Bible was written long before modern man wrote up his history books or even knew the world was round, and yet, long before Columbus sailed the ocean blue, (2,400 years earlier) God said He knew the earth was round. Here, God speaks descriptively to primitive man telling him what the earth looks like from His own perspective looking down at it":
Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
Author, Ray Comfort said, "At a time when science taught that the earth sat on a foundation of either a large animal or a giant (1500 B.C.), the Bible spoke of the earth's free float in space":
Job 26:7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
Can you tell me, how did the men, who wrote these books of the Bible, know to write that the earth is round and that it hangs free out in space, if nobody knew that until centuries later? Nobody, that is, but God. He is the only one who knew and had them write these things.
You tell me that what you call, "religion" is no more than a psychological crutch for weak people? It is surely a great hope and a great crutch for suffering people, but from all of this, it should now be apparent to you that it offers so much more than just that. It not only answers the question of history, origin, and morality, it guarantees you that if you believe what it tells you about who Christ is and what He did for you, you will go to Heaven. As Christians, we know that the Bible was written by God because when we read it, it tells us things about ourselves, as humans, that are so insightful that only our Creator could know these things. It tells us where the world is headed and we can see that progression, in so much, as only a superior being could have known or predicted it would turn out this way. The Bible, in all of its majesty and completeness, tells us first about this earthly world we now live in, and then, also about the heavenly unseen spiritual world that exists and is to come. If the Bible has been accurate in its predictions up to this time about the present world we live in, how can it not also be accurate about the spiritual world it speaks of? All of this is logical, is it not?
It was only about 3-4 generations back that our family felt there was good enough reason to believe in God for them to attend a church regularly, but newer generations gave it up. God may ask some people why they didn't go to church, but He won't cast anyone into hell for not going. God does not require that of you to be saved. In fact, if you try to do anything to get into heaven, the Bible says that you'll end up in hell. But the Bible also says that you must believe. Believing is a state of being, not of doing. The state of being you are in, is either in belief or in unbelief. But you can't just say, "okay, then, I believe" and expect to go to heaven. That is shallow and flippant. There is more to it than that.
It is not only who you believe in, but what you believe about Him and yourself that saves you. The Bible scriptures say that, first, you must believe that you are a sinner and that God requires payment for those sins, and to realize that you are unable to pay for them yourself because the penalty is death. (Have you ever heard the expression: "Jesus died for our sins"?) I know that you think you don't have any sins, but the Bible says that you do. God says that everyone is bad and no one is good except God. Notice that no one is left out of this decree:
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Psalm 14:1-3 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good . The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one . Even just saying there is no God is a sin).
Breaking any of the ten commandments is a sin. Have you ever broken this one?:
Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
You have cursed the name of the very One who gave you life almost every week whenever you said, "Jesus Christ" or "God damn". This sin, alone, is enough to send you to hell.
But because God loved you, Jesus paid the penalty for you. In order to receive the payment that allows you into heaven, you must also believe this:
1 Corinthians 15:3,4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
You might think, "Why would a loving God send anyone to Hell just for not believing in Him or for committing a few sins that didn't include rape, robbery, or murder"? Because He is Holy and no unholiness and ungodliness is allowed into Heaven at all. The Bible was written to show us that His standard is perfection, a standard that none of us can keep or live up to. That was a big problem, but God solved that problem for us by sending His Son to die for those sins so that our slate would be washed clean. We are not able to live completely without sinning, but Jesus did because He is God. He is the only perfect sacrifice that can satisfy our sin debts.
We send ourselves to Hell when we refuse his payment for our sins. It is a free gift, but a gift is not ours until we accept it. It doesn't cost you anything to trust and believe in Him, but to deny your sins and refuse to believe that He paid for them is an insult, a slap in the face to God for His free gift to you. He is long-sufferingly and patiently waiting and wanting us to believe and receive the free gift that Jesus offered, but this day of waiting for us will end soon:
2 Peter 3:8,9 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Repentance means having a change of mind towards God. He is waiting for you to do that right now. To sit back, believing nothing until you die is like playing Russian roulette. If you think you can afford to gamble on his not existing, you are quite a gambler, indeed, and if you're not afraid of dying, you should be. These things were written for our own good:
Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God .
God is waiting for a decision from you to believe, but it has to be done in faith before you die. Having faith is believing in something that you can't see, otherwise it wouldn't be faith, but rather, sight. With God, seeing is not believing, but having faith is. You must have faith:
2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
There is a hell, but there is also a vastly wonderful place waiting for you in Heaven. You have to decide which place you want to go. You have to trust Him in faith. This is His promise to us:
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (You could have this glory too).
I know that you think that all churches are out there only for money and some of them are, but forget the churches and get saved while you still can. Let me explain something for you: Church members share the expenses by giving money to support the church building to pay its bills so they'll have a place to meet and to learn and to do the work of God that He's asked them to do. They also give money to support foreign missions and other church ministries that reach out to the people who don't come to church and need to know about Jesus' sacrifice for sin too. Doing these things does cost money, but each person can decide for themselves if and what they want to contribute. Today, God asks us to give only what we are cheerfully willing to give. If you can't do that cheerfully and willingly without necessity (feeling that you have to) then He doesn't want it from you. So, if your strong reluctance (hate) for giving money to a church is keeping you from believing or from going to heaven, reconsider this: God doesn't want your money then, but He still wants you:
2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
If I am wrong about there being a God (and I am not wrong), I have still lost nothing by believing in Him. I will die someday and just go back into the dirt, and I won't know the difference. I won't be embarrassed. It didn't cost me a thing to believe, but if I am right, you are in danger of hell fire for not believing in Him. You are the one who is gambling with your life. He has stated clearly that you must believe or face hell. It won't cost you a thing to believe, but it will give you eternal life in heaven when you pass on. That is the best gift anyone could give you. If you turn down the free gift, you're on your own to face whatever's out there. The choice is yours.
One more thing- I am willing to help you to understand, but if you get angry and want to call me up to scream at me, forget it. I won't listen to it. If you're 'ticked off', that's your problem. I have given you something good and loving here, and I don't need something bad in return for it. I would rather have you write to me if you're going to tell me off.
Somewhere along the way of life, you and Jimmy have picked up the bad pattern of screaming or trying to out-scream each other. I suspect that came from your father too. He was someone that I wouldn't want to pattern after. I am my own person, and I can decide for myself what to believe and how to live. I don’t have to follow you or your dad's pattern. I have decided to follow this one:
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
As in regards to your father and what he taught you about God, this should tell you where it got him:
The Bible says that any man who denies God's existence, holds the truth in unrighteousness. That means every man knows the truth, but some men would rather deny it. Unfortunately, your father was one of those men. The wrath of God is against him:
Romans 1:17,18 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
If you are "offended", the Bible agrees with you on that. The word "offend" means to offend or to be offended as "to turn someone away from God" or "to turn yourself away from God". A parent who turns away a child from God is in big trouble. A little child has no problem at all believing in God until some adult tells them not to believe in Him. That is something that God does not deal with lightly:
Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend ( to turn away ) one of these little ones which believe in me , it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Your father (my grandfather) has gone where all unbelievers have to go. He chose Satan and his devils to be his gods, and served them well when he told you there is no God. He is being punished according to the degree of sin that he committed while he was alive because he refused the payment that Jesus made for him. There is no telling just how far back we all became heathens, but this generation will end with me and Jeffrey in repentance, in Christ, and on our way to heaven:
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
That's all I have to say unless I hear something positive back from you. God bless you and I hope you finally make the right choice before you die.
The truth in love,
